As summer winds to a close, it’s time to start thinking about school again, so I thought I would share a few educational toys for kids of all ages.

Flash cards are a great way for kids to memorize basic skills, but they’re usually a tool for older children. These Touch and Feel Flash Cards by Alex help teach basic alphabet skills by combining letters, an image, and a texture to help kids learn. Alex makes other flashcard series, such as first words, numbers, and colors. A great way to help kids really learn a word and its meaning.

GeoSafari is well-known for their great electronic  globes and geography toys, but they also make a number of phonics and reading toys, like the Word Lab. This toy doesn’t just teach kids to read and memorize letter patterns, it also focuses on the meaning of words and concepts like antonyms. There’s also a Phonics Lab for younger students.

It can be really difficult to get kids into math toys; it can be hard to quantify things without lots of little pieces, flashcards never change difficulty. The Math Shark by Educational Insights features a variety of problems to solve, plus sounds and lights to make math exciting. With eight difficulty levels and complex concepts like decimal numbers, fractions and percentages in addition to basic functions, it’s a tool that a math student can use for years.
