Just because school is out for the summer doesn’t mean that learning has to stop. There are a lot of cool at-home science kits that you and your children can do together. Here are a few suggestions that I thought looked extra fun.

You can make your own homemade soda and learn a little something while you do it. This kit has received several awards and appeared on the Today show. Recommended for ages 5 and up, but certainly enjoyed by older children as well.

The Mind Blowing Science kit comes with several smaller experiments rather than just one, so you can stretch them out during the summer. It includes a color-changing volcano, ooze, sand that never gets wet and safe color-changing chemicals.

For the young engineer or builder in your house, there’s the Trainmech mechanical motorized wooden Kit from Elenco Electronic. Build your own motorized train locomotive with running wheels and pulley drive operation. Elenco also makes a wooden robot and a car with a similar system.

I thought this one was just way too fun and cool. You can make your own working remote control for the TV or VCR and learn about light and energy working together. How fun! Recommended for ages 8 and older.
