Alex Toys has been around for quite some time and while they make a variety of products, they are probably best known for their art-oriented toys. They have a plethora of ready-to-use kits that are innovative and affordable. So many art kits and sets are geared towards older children and have a giant mess factor, but not Alex Toys products! Another big plus, most of their toys produce great looking art with very little artistic talent required.
Here are a few art projects that are geared towards younger kids, and with the right supervision, should avoid gigantic messes.
The Art Spinner is a fun and easy way for kids to get into art. Absolutely no drawing or painting skills are required to make pictures with this toy. It’s recommended for children 6 and up, but I think that a well-supervised four-year-old would be fine with this toy. I think this could be a great “take turns” project if you have multiple children to entertain.

Here’s a very creative take on the classic crayon. Not only do they come in round, easy to grip spheres, but they also feature cute animal faces. Kids can take apart and re-stack the crayons into a variety of color and animal combinations, and with 24 colors, they’ll never get tired of coloring with them. These are safe for children 18 months and older, which most crayons and marker sets are for kids at least two and older.

This Tissue Art Set comes highly-recommended from a friend. The kit comes with several images with adhesive on them, so you can peel away the sections one at a time and add tissue paper to provide color. No glue! This one is recommended for kids 36 months and up, but the friend said that at a recent family gathering, children of all ages (even teenagers!) were really enjoying this toy. Plus it comes with four googly eyes, and who doesn’t love googly eyes?

The funky Artist Set is designed for younger artist and includes thick-handled brushes with wide bristles, tall painting containers and washable paint. This is definitely best used with big paper, probably the kind that comes on a roll. Alex makes a similar set that features no-spill cups called My First Painting Set.
